The best friends will support you no matter what but are also not afraid to tell you when you’re wrong. Good friends will be on your side while offering a different perspective when you need it-- it's called tough love, and sometimes it's required!

Quality over quantity. This motto can apply to many things in life but holds the most truth when talking about friendships. Nothing is more important in life than having a strong support system to celebrate your wins with you and also cheer you up when life knocks you down.

Quality over quantity. This motto can apply to many things in life but holds the most truth when talking about friendships. Nothing is more important in life than having a strong support system to celebrate your wins with you and also cheer you up when life knocks you down.

When we’re young, we are confident that we’ll remain friends with classmates or neighbors for life, and for some, that may be the case. However, for most, that is rarely true. I’ve learned that it is essential to let go of bonds that are no longer meaningful. Someone who was once important to you might feel like a stranger over time, and that's okay! It is a normal part of life to change and outgrow one another and let go of anything or anyone who may be holding you back.

But while you outgrow some people, seek out others to build stronger bonds with. Finding your go-to friends through all stages of life is one of the most important things you can do. Releasing your thoughts and feelings to a trustworthy friend can be therapeutic. They should be understanding and keep things in perspective to help elevate your way of thinking.

Along with this, good friendships will include equal effort while also realizing when it's time to put their problems on the back burner to be a full-force friend. Sometimes life happens, and you need to drop everything and be there for those who would do the same for you. This is crucial characteristic in your circle of support, but it is just as critical that the emotions, efforts, and energy are mutual.

While you might be great friend, be mindful of who is not reciprocating your energy towards the friendship-be weary of who you have to call first, who doesn’t ask questions about your life, and who might have a hidden agenda. If a “friend” comes to mind, it might be a sign that you should evaluate the friendship. If this is the case, the best approach is to be vulnerable with your friend about how you feel and communicate what you need from them. If you notice that nothing has changed, it might be time to let them go. Not every friendship will survive the trials and tribulations of life, but good ones should be worth saving on both sides!

The most important part of finding your circle of friends is that they are there for you just as much as you will be there for them. One or two super-strong friends are all you need because it is the bond’s strength that trumps all. And when the bond is strong, the support will be constant and consistent for many years to come.
