Hopefully you’ve seen the movie Ghost starring Patrick Swayze by now but if you haven’t, it’s okay because I’m only mentioning this for the sake of a good analogy. My favorite scene in this particular film however happens to be when Patrick, named Sam, sits behind his girlfriend Molly, played by Demi Moore, as they both mold pottery clay together. It’s messy but they smiled and laughed through the entire process. I wonder why that is. Human aren’t usually that excited to touch things that spin and fling dirt everywhere but maybe that attitude would change if they knew what the finished product would be.
I’ve always been intrigued with abstract art, especially bold pieces that make a statement. My mom has a few glass sculptures that I stop and admire often, wondering how they came to be. But isn’t that the experience life gives us often? I know we all have been in situations that made us question everything! I’ve looked at my own personal circumstances and thought, “There’s no way something good can come from this mess.” Yet here I am today writing about the very challenges I went through and how they made a champion out of me. I thought I would never have my own blog and now I manage a website. I never thought I would make enough money to cover my basic needs, let alone be able to invest in the things I enjoy. I never thought I would heal from heartache but here I am whole, happy and ready to love again. All those times I sat and worried about the outcome, God was sitting behind me adding a special touch to that would forever change my outlook.
As you embark on our assigned path for 2018, remember that the ugly days are just as vital to the process as the beautiful ones. In fact, you can’t have one without the other. Whether you lose the job, the relationship, the friend, grow frustrated and fatigued from striving for your dreams, etc. or gain something wonderful in every aspect of your life, each day is worth the filth you have to push through in order to flourish and reach your highest potential.
